MTEL has been designed by cooperative education teachers from Ontario to draw on their experience, to help manage their cooperative education and OYAP programs and to ensure that students are actively involved in all essential processes for learning.
The application helps board leads and/or coordinators manage their cooperative education and OYAP programs efficiently.
Effective Time Management: The various tools developed for MTEL by cooperative education teachers help minimize administration time which allow teachers and board leads and/or coordinators to focus on tasks that are centered around students’ active participation such as monitoring meetings and other collaborative activities.
Standardization of practices: Using common and relevant tools, forms and reports leads to standardization and consistency of cooperative education programs in Ontario.
Ministry Compliant: The application and its tools are aligned with The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 11 and 12: Cooperative Education, 2018 and also comply with Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program Guidelines.
Enhanced Training: MTEL’s application features and wealth of resources facilitate learning for teachers and students who are new to cooperative education.
Integrated Student Database: Thanks to an automated student data extract process with the user-boards IT service, student info automatically populates into the student’s record, relevant cooperative education forms and the Student’s Cooperative Education Learning Plan, eliminating hours of data re-entry.
Employer Database: Helps teachers find relevant information about the student’s placement and allows that information to be added to the student’s record quickly.
Resource Databases: Quickly search the Ontario Curriculum Database, National Occupation Classification (NOC) database, and the Apprenticeship Trades Information database. These three databases are key to developing the student’s record and learning plan quickly and efficiently. All three databases are regularly updated, so that teachers have access to current information. The Apprenticeship Trades Information database is based on the information available on the Ontario College of Trades website; it is updated regularly.
Summary reports by teacher, school, and/or school board let you see the big picture – or focus on specifics.
Accessible: Cloud based, available 24/7, anywhere, using your favourite browser.
Collaborative: Facilitates teacher-to-teacher and school-to-school collaboration and information sharing, while carefully controlling private and confidential information. Student records and learning plans can be instantly transferred between teachers.
Secure: Secure login, system backup, SSL certificates, content delivery networks, web application firewalls, and protection against brute force and DDoS attacks.
Reliable: > 99.9% uptime. Hosted on Microsoft Azure infrastructure with system redundancy ensuring maximum up time.
Accurate Student Information: Student data is imported securely from your school board’s student information system (Trillium, PowerSchool, Maplewood, ESIS, etc.). Student data is updated daily, or any other schedule, as per your school board’s Information Technology service requirements.
Easy to Manage: Separate access levels for teachers, students and board leads and/or coordinators.
Training Is Included: Subscription cost includes hands-on training for your board lead and/or coordinator and your cooperative education teachers. Video tutorials are available in the application.
User Support: Quality user support is provided by MTEL support staff, either through the board lead and/or coordinator or directly to teachers, following school board policy (email address: email@example.com). Support can also come from the community of school boards using the MTEL application.
User boards are members of the MTEL Provincial Committee, where their input is sought in progressive development.
MTEL-user school boards from both the public and catholic school systems have helped design and develop the way the application works and guide its evolution into an increasingly robust, easy-to-use and practical tool for teachers, students, leads and/or coordinators.
The committee also helps build networking amongst cooperative education teachers working for the benefit of students and teachers.
Based on feedback solicited from teachers, leads and/or coordinators, refinements and updates are implemented throughout the year, while major functional upgrades are deployed annually.
The committee consists of board coordinators, directors of IT Services and cooperative education teachers representing both French and English school boards, including OCEA and OCPA representatives. Their duties include:
