MTEL has been designed by experienced Ontario co-op educators who have years of experience working within the Ministry of Education guidelines to create and manage Co-operative Education programs in boards across Ontario, both as co-op teachers and as their board’s Co-op / OYAP coordinator.

The application is carefully designed to help board coordinators manage their Experiential Learning programs efficiently.

Efficient, Standardizedand Ministry Compliant

Save time: All processes, procedures, reports have been developed by experienced co-op teachers with the goal of minimizing administration time. Teachers and coordinators can focus on what is most important: doing placement health & safety assessments, visiting students at their placement, finding employers, preparing board reports, etc.

Standardization of practices: Standardization and consistency of co-op management means everyone is working with common tools, including the electronic WEA, the PPLP and many routine co-op forms and reports.

Ministry Compliant: The application and its tools respect all aspects of the Ministry of Education policy document “Cooperative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning, Policies and Procedures for Ontario Secondary Schools, 2000”, and also fully comply with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities guidelines for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).

Quick Training: The intuitive nature of the application’s features and the wealth of resources that are included ease the learning curve for teachers new to co-op.

Informationat Your Fingertips

Integrated Student Database: Student info automatically populates into student’s record, routine co-op forms and the PPLP, eliminating hours of data re-entry.

Employer Database: Helps teachers locate student placements and add the employer information to a student’s record quickly.

Resource Databases: Quickly search the Ontario Curriculum Database, National Occupation Classification (NOC) database, and the Apprenticeship Training Standards (ATS) database. These three databases are key to developing the student’s PPLP quickly and efficiently. All three databases are regularly updated, so that teachers have access to current information.

MTEL Provincial Committee:Responsive and Evolving

Working together in the MTEL Provincial Committee, MTEL-user school boards from both the public and separate school systems have helped design the way the application works and guide its evolution into an increasingly robust, easy-to-use and practical tool for teachers and coordinators.

Based on feedback solicited from teachers and coordinators, refinements and updates are implemented throughout the year, while major functional upgrades are deployed annually, usually over the summer.

Each user board sits on the MTEL Provincial Committee, where their input is sought in ongoing development. The committee also helps build networking amongst co-op educators working for the benefit of students and teachers.
